Harrogate and Knaresborough’s MP Andrew Jones was given a position in Government following his landslide victory at the General Election.

The Conservative MP increased his majority by a whopping 15,332 votes.

Number 10 announced that he was to serve as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Transport.

He is the first Harrogate MP to hold a Government role for more than 50 years.

North Yorkshire County Council proposed parking charges on Sundays, and a £2 flat rate charge for after 6pm parking at on-street parking spots.

Plans to start charging for on-street parking on evenings and Sundays could dent Harrogate’s night-time economy, the Chamber of Trade warned.

A petition was launched and attracted thousands of signatures opposing plans to introduce parking charges for evenings and Sundays, with concerns about the effect on businesses in town.
