One of Hambleton and Richmondshire’s main roads is in ‘A1’ condition thanks to the collection of six tonnes of litter.

Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils street scene team joined forces with AOne, agents for the Highways Agency, to clean up the four kilometre stretch of the A1 trunk road between Leeming and Catterick.

Focussing mainly on the central reservation, the litter pick took place over five nights and involved 11 members of the joint teams. They collected 800 bags of litter, a massive six tonnes.

“Disappointingly everything from confectionery wrappers to human waste was collected,” said Street Scene Manager, John Proud. “Our challenge now is to monitor any deterioration and to act as soon as we see a problem.”
