Ripon City Council has voted unanimously to give the Freedom of the City to RAF Leeming at a council meeting.

The Mayor of Ripon, Coun Mick Stanley, raised the motion and said he wanted Ripon to have a “strong association” with the RAF.

He said: “The reason I suggested this is the fact that two of its standards are laid up in the cathedral and there has been a deliberate move by RAF Leeming to associate themselves with Ripon and its cathedral.

“It has a long asssociation and it will be good to have a strong association with the RAF.”
