Over £3,000 raised for local causes

Boroughbridge Lions would like to give a big thank you to all who supported their Christmas fundraising – including support for Santa on his sleigh touring the area.

Early results show that in excess of £3,000 has been raised, all of which will be spent on local causes.

Our Christmas work culminated in bringing Santa to Springfield House and Boroughbridge Manor on Christmas morning to help distribute presents.

Special thanks to the support of Ripon Landrover, Canal Garage and Morrisons for their contributions of a vehicle, fuel and servicing and tins of sweets respectively.

Their support, as in all of our fundraising, allows 100 per cent of money raised to be spent for the benefit of Boroughbridge and district.

With only 14 members the workload was eased by the valued support of members of local Scouts, Guides and Boroughbridge Community Care.

2011 saw our continued support to local schools, Community Care, local care homes, Scouts, Guides, and families in need, along with our support of Church Lane Surgery, Boroughbridge Cycle Day, Boroughbridge Town Council, the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride, and Knaresborough Bed Race.

2012 sees all these continuing, together with joining forces with Boroughbridge Chamber of Trade, Boroughbridge Town Council and Community Care to arrange events for the town to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Our contribution will be a family lunch at the Coronation Hall on Sunday, June 2.

If your New Year’s resolution is to give something back to the community, why not come and see what we do at our next meeting?

It takes place at the Crown Hotel on Tuesday, January 10, at 8pm. Alternatively, telephone Graham on 01423 323867 or John on 01423 326211.

A priority for the Lions is a desire to not only support the local community but to have fun while you are doing it.
