An unusual flock of sheep has gathered in Grewelthorpe.

Decorated by residents, the wooden sheep are part of the 2012 Sheep Trail to raise money to convert the old Chapel in Grewelthorpe into a village hall.

There will be prizes for the best decorated sheep with the winners announced at the Grewelthorpe Diamond Jubilee Gala on Monday June 4.

The Grewelthorpe Sheep Trail has been sponsored by Black Sheep Brewery. Chairman, Paul Theakston, will judge the best-decorated sheep and lamb and present the prizes.

The brewery has also joined in the fun, although they won’t be competing with a Black Sheep decorated sheep and lamb which are on display on the little green opposite the Crown Inn.

Visitors to Grewelthorpe will see many of the competing sheep and lambs by strolling along the main street and looking into front gardens.

Plans of the village, showing the locations of all the competitors, are available from St James’ Church in Grewelthorpe.
