Night marshals are to once again patrol the streets of Northallerton.
A three year grant from the Home Office will support two NightSafe Marshals to patrol the town centre every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm until 4am.
The marshalls are the latest initiative from the Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership to increase town centre policing of town centres and continue the fight against night time crime.
Councillor Tim Swales, Hambleton District Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said North Yorkshire Police,a key member of the Community Safety Partnership fully supported the new scheme.
“These marshals are not police they will support police officers to provide a reassuring presence on the streets and will intervene when necessary to prevent alcohol-related violence.
Marshals have been used successfully in many town and city centres where they have been able to contribute to reductions in violence and anti-social behaviour.”
