Police officers in Ripon have taken delivery of a new car thanks to the generosity of an area haulage business.

Burton Leonard firm Alfred Hymas Ltd have provided a car for the city’s Police Community Support Officers to use for the upcoming year.

The PCSOs will use the car to visit outlying villages around Ripon for community events and to visit people who have reported a crime and want to speak to a police officer.

PCSO Sharon Wilson said: “It makes a big difference to us, we really couldn’t do without an extra vehicle.”

Company directors Robert and Stewart Hymas handed over the keys for the Citreon Xsara Picasso on Wednesday, December 21.

The haulage firm stepped in to offer a vehicle when the PCSOs’ previous sponsorship deal with car dealership Batchelors of Ripon came to an end after four years.

“I want to thank Mr Hymas for offering their help, and Batchelors for supporting us so well for four years,” said PCSO Wilson.
