An official opening to celebrate the completed renovation of Ripon Community Link’s St Wilfrid’s bungalow has been held.

The building had been unused for 20 years and fallen into disrepair but now the renovated building along with Community House, on Allhallowgate, provides a central location for accessing community facilities and resources.

Now it has moved in, Ripon Community Link uses the building to support people with learning disabilities, including those with profound and complex needs.

It has maximised the space available to include: a large room which can be used for many activities; a sensory room; an inclusive kitchen with adjoining dining room; an office; a disabled toilet with changing bed; a second toilet; and a spacious hallway for an easy welcome.

The building’s renovation design was supported by Barnardo’s surveyor, Kevin Young, and he was invited to open the bungalow officially after Ripon Community Link moved in.

During the official opening day, Ripon Community Link hosted many visitors keen to see the finished project and the group’s work.

The building project was undertaken by Project FM supported by other donors.

In addition, many of those involved in Ripon Community Link as members, volunteers, family and friends have helped with fundraising activities.

Throughout 2015, Ripon Community Link is celebrating its silver jubilee – 25 years of operations.

The main public celebration event is to be in Ripon Cathedral on Wednesday, July 8, and the organisation hopes many will join them on the day and in other events to be
announced throughout the year.
