New Year at Bivouac: All the fires lit around the barns, a large luxury buffet throughout the evening and the Ouse Brothers coming to play with a DJ for afters. Book in at Bivouac, High Knowle, near Swinton, HG4 4JZ for a good knees up welcoming the New Year on Monday, December 31! You will receive a welcome drink and you can enjoy cheese platters, hors d’oeuvres and sweet treat platters. The party is from 8pm-1.30am. Pre-book tickets only at £25 each. Meet in the car park for an hours walk then back to the cosy cafe for hot toddies, festive snacks and marshmallows on the fire. A set menu is available from noon until 5pm. Cafe closes at 5.30pm.

Free career advice: start the New Year with a new job. Come along to the Mashamshire Community Office on Thursday afternoons. Talk, one-to-one, with a guidance professional who can give you information and advice relating to exploring career options, adult educations courses, CV writing and job-search techniques. No need to book – just turn up between 2pm and 3pm on Thursday afternoons. Volunteers needed: are you confident on the computer and have a few hours to spare a week or month? The Community Office needs volunteers to help with computer-related tasks – we now have a Twitter account and our new website is about to be updated and improved. Library volunteers always needed: Mashamshire Community Library is open from 10am-3pm, Monday – Friday and until 2pm on Saturdays. Late night opening on Wednesdays until 7pm. Easy access via a lift or stairs. 100 per cent volunteer run and staffed. Books, large print, audio books, dvds and local history information. Returns, renewals and reservations. We are always looking for more library volunteers. No experience needed, just a love of books and meeting people – training will be given. Short Walks in Masham: Age UK North Yorkshire supports volunteer walk leaders to deliver regular group walks for the over 50s around the Harrogate District. They would like to develop this further in the New Year with a new regular group in Masham. If you are interested in volunteering to lead or assist with the walks then please get in touch. From January 2013 the current Yoredale News parish magazine is being expanded and will be delivered to homes throughout the benefice free every month. All you need to do is put the magazines through the letterbox – no calling required.
