Story time for the under fives: takes place at Mashamshire Community Library 7 Little Market Place, Masham on Thursday, February 14 at 9.30am. In association with Acorns and North Yorkshire County Council. The session takes place every second Thursday of the month. All welcome, no booking required, just turn up. Masham Youth Club: meets at Masham Town Hall on Thursday, February 14 from 7-9pm. This week it is Family Big Quiz night. £1 per person and teams of six are required. Valentines Ball: in aid of Grewelthorpe School on Friday, February 15 at the Black Sheep Bistro, Masham. Tickets are still available from Grewelthorpe School on 01765 658287 or Laura Dean on 01765 658526. Tickets cost £25 each and include a drink on arrival, a two course meal and disco. All proceeds to Grewelthorpe Primary School. Holy Communion: is at St Mary’s Church, Masham at 10.45am on Sunday, February 17. Holy Communion is also at St Paul’s, Healey at 9.15am.
Methodist Church Service: Valerie Smith will lead the service at the Methodist Chapel, Masham at 10.30am on Sunday, February 17. Kings Praise is at 6.30pm.
Masham Photographic Club: meets at The King’s Head conference room on Tuesday, February 19 at 7.30pm. The Worlds Beard and Moustache Championships, Quirky Adventures in Alaska and Norway and Managing Copyright and Infringements, presented by Rick Harrison. Rick is a freelance photographer who covers a wide variety of subjects from infra-red techniques to coverage of the World Moustache and Beard Championships. Non- members are welcome to all meetings and a nominal charge of £3 is requested.
Movies in Masham: Kes is the second film in Masham Town Hall’s spring programme on Tuesday, February 19 at the new time of 7.30pm. Ken Loach’s raw, truthful re-telling of Barry Hines’ gritty story of a boy’s alienation and brutal school life in 1960s Yorkshire and his changing life when he finds and trains a kestrel. Enjoy the full cinema experience, also featuring historical films of Masham, wine and soft drinks, popcorn, sweets from Bah Humbugs and Brymor ice cream. Fancy some company or a cuppa?: the Knitting Group meets every Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist School room. Novice or an expert, or just wanting a chat, you are welcome any time between 2pm and 4pm. Coffee is served at the Wednesday drop-in from 10.30am to noon each week and Rev David Richardson will normally be available in chapel at that time for anyone who wishes to see him. There is a coffee morning in the school room each Saturday from 10.30am to noon.
Mashamshire Community Library: opening hours have changed slightly on a Wednesday evening. The library will close at 5pm on a Wednesday during the winter months and until 7pm during the summer. winter season is from the end of October until Easter and summer is after Easter, Wednesday, April 3 until the end of October. For the rest of the week, Monday to Friday, the library is open from 10am-3pm and until 2pm on Saturdays. Storytelling for children is on the second Thursday of the month at 9.30am and a monthly coffee morning on the first Tuesday of the month from 10.30am until noon. Easy access via lift or stairs for books and large print, audio books, DVDs, local history information, returns, renewals and reservations, internet access in the Community Office. 100 per cent volunteer run the library and we are always looking for more volunteers.
