Emergency services are currently at the scene of a lorry fire on the A1(M) at Dishforth which has forced the closure of both carriageways.
The incident was reported at 4.02pm today (Tuesday) and involves a lorry parked on the hard shoulder of the south-bound carriageway, just past Junction 49.
The fire broke out in the trailer of the lorry which is causing smoke to blow over both carriageways. The driver has unhitched the trailer and moved the cab away from the fire.
To ensure public safety while North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue deal with the blaze, both carriageways of the A1(M) have been closed.
The Highways Agency is putting in place diversions.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to remain patient while the emergency services deal with the incident.
