Ripon City Swimming Club has held its annual social and awards evening.

The event took place at Ripon City Golf Club where the Mayor and Mayoress of Ripon, Coun Mick and Gill Stanley, presented prizes to the winners of the Senior Gala, which had been held on February 13.

Prizes for the Mini Gala were presented by Coun Stanley and Chris Remnant, a volunteer teacher who is finally retiring after several decades of swimming instruction. Following the presentation, there was a raffle followed immediately by a disco for the children run by Vicky of Blue Duck Events.

Swimming club chairman Kenn Hart said: “A special mention is due to Dick Edwards for organising the event and coordinating the return and arrangement of trophies, Jackie Laverick for her sterling work as club treasurer and membership secretary plus all the voluntary teachers, committee members and helpers who have kept this Ripon institution running since 1936.

We will be celebrating our 80th anniversary in 2016 – watch this space.”
