An 18-year-old woman was assaulted outside a Northallerton nightclub on Sunday and police are investigating.

The incident took place outside Club Amadeus on Elder Road at some time between midnight and 2.30am.

Two men, both aged 20, have been arrested and remain in police custody for questioning.

It is believed a number of people in and around the club at the time may have information, and detectives are asking witnesses to come forward.

Investigating offices particularly want to speak to the people who helped the woman in the nightclub’s foyer after the incident.

North Yorkshire Police Sup Int Amanda Oliver said: “It is very unusual for something like this to happen in such a small community.

“The victim is understandably extremely upset by what has happened to her and we are doing everything we can to offer her the support she needs at this time.

“I would like to thank the people who assisted her following the incident and ask them to come forward with any information that can help us with this investigation.

“I would also like to appeal to anyone who saw anything in the club or when they were leaving to contact me if they can assist with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information can contact the police on 101 - select option two and ask for Amanda Oliver.
