The victim of a fatal stab wound in Ripley on Sunday (August 3) has been named as 44-year-old Mark Leslie John Berney, from Knaresborough.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed his identity and that the suspect, a 40-year-old from Harrogate, remains in police custody for questioning.

Mr Berney’s family have issued a photograph of the deceased and have requested that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, Head of the Major Crime Unit, said: “At this time we are not looking for another person or anticipate further arrests in connection with the case.”

Officers re-opened the B6165 at Whipley Bank on Monday (4 August 2014) evening. The section of road had been cordoned off while searches were carried out at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police have thanked local residents disrupted by the operation for their patience and understanding.
