Place is set to be sentenced for the crimes at York Crown Court in June.

A former deputy headteacher of a North Yorkshire primary school has been found guilty of 14 counts of child sex abuse – some of which date back to the 1970s when the victim was aged seven – at a trial held at York Crown Court.

Anthony Herbert Place, 75, of Mallorie Court, Ripon, faced 12 historic charges of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 and two historic charges of committing gross indecency against the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons but who is not one of his former pupils.

The offences happened at addresses in the Ripon area, and in a car, between February 1977 and February 1984.

Following the guilty verdict on Friday last week, Place has been released on bail while he awaits sentencing which is due to take place at York Crown Court on June 13.
