Motorcyclist dies in crash near Sherburn in Elmet

A motorcyclist died in a collision near Sherburn in Elmet and police are appealing for witnesses.

At around 4pm on Thursday, August 21, a silver Alfa Romeo was involved in a collision with a white Honda CBF motorbike on the B1222 near Newthorpe, approximately 250 metres north of the Gorse Lane junction.

The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old man from Sherburn in Elmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Alfa Romeo, a 73-year-old man from Leeds, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with a serious injury to his hand.

The road was closed until 9pm to allow emergency services to deal with the casualties and for collision investigators to examine the scene.

Police are asking anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision or witnessed the crash to contact them.
