Man dies in Tadcaster collision

A 22-year-old man was pronounced dead after a collision yesterday on the A64 near Tadcaster.

The Scarborough man, a passenger in a blue Renault Clio which overturned at around 3.25pm yesterday, suffered fatal injuries in the single vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway.

The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man also from Scarborough, suffered minor injuries and was taken to York Hospital.

Another man who was also a passenger was treated at Leeds General Infirmary for minor injuries after the car came to rest in a ditch.

The road was closed at the time to allow officers to examine the scene and was reopened at around 8.40pm.

Police officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them with information.
