Church services: Rev Caroline Falkingham will celebrate the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. There will also be Spotlights, the children’s Sunday club. The midweek communion service begins at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Chapel service: the chapel’s congregation will make their own arrangements for worship at 10.30am on Sunday in the Ebenezer Chapel.

Mechanics institute events: Badminton starts next Thursday, September 19 and yoga begins on Friday, September 20. The watercolour painting class and the needlecraft classes start on Thursday, September 26. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class will be held at 2pm and body blitz aerobics at 7pm. The technical knock out class will be held from 9.15am to 10.15am on Friday.

Accompanist needed: the Highside Singers, the choir based in Kirkby Malzeard, need an accompanist for the new season’s rehearsals which begin on Tuesday, September 17 in the Methodist Chapel schoolroom. Male singers will also be welcome. For more details please phone 01765 650145.

Watercolour painting: a ten week course, led by Sue Mitchell, is to be held on Thursday mornings at the mechanics’ institute from September to December. The cost will be £100 and a limited number of places are available. Please contact Howard Mountain on 01765 658838 for further details.

Film night: the first of the season’s mechanics’ institute film nights will take place at 7.30pm on Friday, September 20. Please look on the notice-board for more details.

Workshop: Kate Crane is holding a workshop at the mechanics’ institute from 9.30am-12.30pm on Saturday, September 21. Acetate and alcohol inks will be used so come prepared: it could be messy. The fee is £14.

Mosaic trail: the charity mosaic trail will be held on Saturday, September 21. The full trail is 7 miles long. It starts at Tom Corner from 10.30am to 11.15am and the charge is £6 for adults and £3 for children. This includes coffee/soft drinks and cake, barbecue, ice cream, cake and afternoon tea. Tickets are available from Karen Pickles (01765 658452) or from Kirkby Stores.

Coffee morning: the annual coffee morning in aid of Macmillan takes place from 10am to noon on Friday, September 27. There will be a raffle and cake and bring and buy stalls and an opportunity to order Christmas cards. Please support it.

Quiz night: the mechanics’ institute winter quiz nights begin on Friday, September 27. The bar will be open from 8pm and the quiz begins at 8.30pm prompt.

Aldfield - Church service: the service of Evensong begins at 6.30pm on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church. Liz Jarvis will be the officiant.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.

Church service: the Eucharist will be celebrated by Rev Caroline Falkingham at 9am on Sunday at the Chapel of the Resurrection.

Galphay - Folk dance club: the Roosters are the band and Dave Blight the caller when the members of the Highside folk dance club meet in the village institute from 8-10pm on Friday, September 20. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Grantley - Fountains preschool groups: the AGM of Fountains playgroup and preschool will be held in the playgroup building at 7.30pm next Thursday, September 19.

Dance: the next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm to midnight on Saturday, September 21. Dennis Westmorland will play and there will be a raffle and supper.

Sawley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.

Chapel service: the Family Harvest Festival service begins at 6.30pm on Sunday in Sawley chapel. It will be led by Rev Dr Ruth Malham.

Village hall events: there will be an opportunity to play table tennis at 7pm on Monday. On Tuesday there will be dominoes at 1.30pm and a bowls match at 7pm. Short mat bowls will be held at 1pm on Wednesday.

Whist and dominoes: the monthly whist and domino night begins at 7.30pm on Friday, September 20.

Flower arranging: an evening of flower arranging by Bob Forbes from Oasis of Ripon will be held in the village hall at 7pm on Thursday, September 27.

Afternoon tea: there will be afternoon tea available from 2pm on Friday, September 27 in the village hall. All are welcome.

Winksley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
