How will you help Sport Relief 2014?
Sport Relief 2014 takes place from March 21-24, and we want to know if you will be taking part.
The Harrogate Advertiser series is urging readers from across Harrogate, Knaresborough, Nidderdale, Ripon and Wetherby to get in touch with fund raising ideas, pictures and videos in the build up to the event.
Sport Relief encourages people to run, cycle or swim for charity.
The district always does its bit to help charities at home and abroad, and we will be publishing a picture special the week after the event to mark the fundraisers’ efforts.
The run can be of one, three or six miles. Swimmers can take on 1.5k, 2.5k, 5k or simply swim.
And the cycles are of three, 25 and 50-mile lengths.
Schools, businesses and families should contact the newsdesk with their ideas, and the Harrogate Advertiser will compile a video of footage taken at events across the district during the weekend.
Since 2002, Sport Relief has raised £195million.
The money is spent by Comic Relief to help people at home in the UK and across the world.
Many schools across the district have already been hard at work raising funds, with others expected to get involved through the weekend.
A Sport Relief statement saidL“The money pupils raise this Sport Relief, will help to change lives forever.
“That’s because Comic Relief spends the money raised by the public to give extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Yorkshire, the UK and throughout the world a helping hand to turn their lives around.
“Those schools that haven’t already signed up can still get involved in Sport Relief 2014.
“As always, schools can organise a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Friday, March 21, but there are lots of other ways to join the fun and games too.
“The free School Fundraising Resource Pack contains exclusive materials to help organise events.”
