Boston Spa School Sixth Form have got exciting news from the country’s top universities.

This week, student Darren Carver-Balsiger was told he has been awarded the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Bursary to study Maths at Churchill College, Cambridge for outstanding ability and personality. The award is worth £2,000 a year and comes with the opportunity of an overseas travel grant.

Head teacher Christopher Walsh said: “We so pleased when Darren was one of our five students offered places at Cambridge or Oxford Universities, but this award is an exceptional achievement and a well-deserved recognition by Cambridge of Darren’s significant potential.”

A week earlier Sophie Rymill won the Desmond Tutu Scholarship to Biomedical Sciences King’s College London. The award was for her academic excellence and potential, recognising not only her past achievements but also the confidence King’s College have in Sophie’s capacity to thrive in her studies.

Other students with offers from Oxford or Cambridge include Charlotte Dibb, Anthony Archer, Liam Langshaw, and Lucy Binsted.
