Leading Harrogate bar to host Chris Helme of The Seahorses

Fans of classic 90s indie music '“ and a little alt folk '“ have a real treat at an award-winning Harrogate craft beer bar this Sunday night.

Chris Helme will be presenting both his music sides in a free gig at award-winning bar Ten Devonshire Place off Skipton Road – the Love is the Law hit era of John Squire’s post-Stone Roses band The Seahorses and the reflective acoustic era of his other band The Yards.

Following The Seahorses' split, Helme went on to form The Yards from the ashes of his solo backing band.

Initially named Super Zero, the band originally featured former Shed Seven guitarist Paul Banks who left before the release of their debut EP The Devil Is Alive and Well In D.C. in April 2003. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2005.

More recently this Howden-born singer-songwriter released his debut solo album Ashes in 2008.

A second, The Rookery, followed in 2012, its delicate mix of blues, folk, indie, psychedelia and Americana co-produced Sam Forrest of Nine Black Alps.

Support will come from local acts Ben Sowden and The Superlatives.

There’s more local music at Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough tomorrow night courtesy of local promoters North Yorkshire Hard Core, when a free evening of punk rock takes place starring fab bands The 7ups, FwF & Jim Thistlethwaite.

The same night also sees The Stray Blues Band appear at Monteys Rock Café in Harrogate.
