Chapel services: there is no morning service in the Ebenezer Chapel on Sunday. A United service begins at 10.30am at the chapel in West Tanfield. Next Sunday, January 5 is Plough Sunday at St Andrew’s Church. There will be no service in chapel that day.

Church services: there will be a United Benefice service at 10.30am on Sunday in the church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald in Winksley but no service at St Andrew’s Church. The midweek communion service will be at 10.30am on Wednesday. The annual village Plough service will be held at 10.30am on Sunday, January 5 when the Kirkby Malzeard Long Sword dance will be performed.

Boxing Day: The Longsword Dancers will meet at the Queen’s Head at 1pm and will tour the village performing the Kirkby Malzeard Longsword Dance. Following the fire at The Drovers in Dallowgill they can no longer go on to dance there. This is a break in a 26 year tradition. Instead they will go on to The Crown in Grewelthorpe for 2.45pm and will dance there.

Annual festive quiz: begins at the earlier time of 8pm on Friday, December 27. The bar will be open from 7.30pm.

Kirkby Malzeard WI: will meet in the mechanics institute at 2pm on Wednesday, January 8. They are in for some surprises!

Volunteers needed: to work three-four hours a week at the Saint Michael’s Hospice shop on North Street in Ripon. Application forms are available in the shop or contact Deborah on 01423 879687 or email volunteers@saintmichaelshospice

Aldfield

Church service: no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church. The congregation is invited to the Benefice service which begins at 10.30am in the church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald in Winksley.

Dallowgill

Chapel service: Dallowgill chapel’s congregation are invited to the United service which will be held at West Tanfield chapel at 10.30am as there is no service at Dallowgill chapel.

Discover Dallowgill History Group: will next meet at 3pm on Sunday, January 12.

Galphay

Film night: at 7pm on Wednesday, January 8 the film Mud will be screened at the village institute.

Grantley

Boxing Day dance: will be held at the village hall from 8pm to midnight when Alan’s band will play and there will be a raffle and supper.

Dancing: mid-week dancing begins again on Thursday, January 2. It will be held from 7.30-10pm.

Grantley and Winksley WI: members meet at Heatherlands on Skellding Road at 2pm on Wednesday, January 8.

Sawley

Chapel service: on Sunday there is no service in Sawley chapel but a United service will begin at 10.30am at West Tanfield chapel.

Church services: no service in the Church of St Michael and All Angels on Sunday. The United service begins at 10.30am in the church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald in Winksley.

Chapel dominoes: at 7.30pm on Friday, January 3. Special domino drive to raise funds for Sawley chapel.

Winksley

United Benefice: service will be held at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
