Chapel service: Sunday worship at the Ebenezer Chapel begins at 10.30am.

Church services: the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in St. Andrew’s church will be celebrated by the Rev Lesley Ashton. The midweek communion service starts at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Mechanics institute events: the watercolour painting class will be held from 9.45am-12.15pm and needlecraft is from 1.30-3.30pm. Tomorrow the technical knock out class will be held from 9.15-10.15am and yoga from 1.45-3pm. Badminton is on Monday. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class will be at 2pm and body blitz aerobics at 7pm.

Film night: the next film night at the mechanics’ institute will be held at 7.30pm on Friday, October 18. Please look in the entrance to the mechanics’ institute for more details.

Workshop: Kate Crane will hold a workshop in the mechanics’ institute from 9.30am-noon on Saturday, October 19.

Swap shop: Kirkby Malzeard Yorkshire in Bloom committee is holding a plant, seed and cutting swap shop at the Jubilee Rose Garden (opposite the doctors’ surgery) from 10am-noon on Sunday, October 20. You are invited to bring along and unwanted plants, seeds and cuttings and swap them for others at no charge. If you bring five plants you will receive five tickets which can be swapped for other plants, seeds or cuttings. If you have nothing to swap tickets can be purchased at £1 each.

Quiz night: the mechanics’ institute quiz night will be held on Friday, October 26. The bar will be open from 8pm and the quiz begins promptly at 8.30pm.

Village supper: the Kirkby Malzeard in Bloom committee is holding a village supper in the mechanics’ institute on Saturday, October 26. Nibbles, village entertainment, a hot main course, home-made puddings and cheese and biscuits are all included in the ticket price of £10 per person. Profits from the evening will go to a gardening project at Kirkby Malzeard primary school. Tickets are now available at Kirkby Stores.

Aldfield - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service in Dallowgill chapel on Sunday.

Galphay - Folk dance club: from 8-10pm on Friday, October 18 the Taproom Band will play and Bob Carter will be the caller when members of the Highside folk dance club meet in the village institute. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Grantley - Dance: the next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm-midnight on Saturday when Lyne Valley will be the band. There will be a raffle and supper.

Dancing: mid-week dancing begins for the winter next Thursday, October 17. It is held in the village hall from 7.30-10pm.

Coffee evening: the Brownies are holding their annual coffee evening in the village hall on Tuesday, October 22. Please come along and support it.

Sawley - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Sawley chapel.

Church service: the family service at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels will be led by Liz Jarvis.

Village hall events: there will be an opportunity to play table tennis at 7pm on Monday and the bowls match begins at 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Whist and dominoes: the monthly whist and domino night will be held at 7.30pm next Friday, October 18.

Race night: the race night at the village hall begins at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 19. The charge is £5 payable on the door to include supper and a tote card. Come along and buy a horse or bet on a horse.

Afternoon tea: from 2-4pm on Friday, October 25 afternoon tea will be served in the village hall.

Winksley - Church service: the Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev Caroline Falkingham at 9am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
