Church and chapel services: the joint harvest festival service, with the Rev Caroline Falkingham and Liz Jarvis, begins at 10.30am on Sunday in St. Andrew’s church. At 6.30pm the Rev Ruth Parry will lead Sunday worship for harvest in the Ebenezer Chapel. The midweek communion service in St Andrew’s church starts at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Open morning: Kirkby Malzeard preschool is holding an open morning for prospective parents and their children from 9.30-11.30am today. Mechanics institute events: the technical knock out class will be held from 9.15-10.15am and yoga from 1.45-3pm tomorrow. Badminton is on Monday. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class will be at 2pm and body blitz aerobics at 7pm. The watercolour painting class will be held from 9.45am-12.15pm and needlecraft is from 1.30-3.30pm on Thursday.
Harvest supper: this year’s harvest supper will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow in the mechanics’ institute. The speaker will be the Rev Ruth Parry and tickets are available from Ruth Verity (01765 658401).
Disco: a disco, organised jointly by the mechanics’ institute and the Highside playing fields committees, will be held at the mechanics’ institute on Saturday.
Dominoes: the winter season of domino nights at the Highside playing field pavilion starts on Monday at 7.30pm. The £2 charge includes tea and biscuits.
Coffee morning: the Methodist chapel coffee morning will be held from 10am-noon on Tuesday. There will be cakes and cards to buy and a warm welcome to everyone.
Film night: the next film night at the mechanics’ institute will be held at 7.30pm on Friday, October 18. Please look in the entrance to the mechanics’ institute for more details.
Workshop: Kate Crane will hold a workshop in the mechanics’ institute from 9.30am-noon on Saturday, October 19.
Swap shop: Kirkby Malzeard Yorkshire in Bloom committee is holding a plant, seed and cutting swap shop at the Jubilee Rose Garden (opposite the doctors’ surgery) from 10am-noon on Sunday, October 20. You are invited to bring along and unwanted plants, seeds and cuttings and swap them for others at no charge. If you bring five plants you will receive five tickets which can be swapped for other plants, seeds or cuttings. If you have nothing to swap tickets can be purchased at £1 each.
Day therapy: Saint Michael’s Hospice is looking for volunteers for a pilot designed to improve access to its services by delivering day therapy care at the mechanics’ institute in Kirkby Malzeard. It will run for 20 weeks from the end of November. Volunteers are needed to assist both the nursing staff and patients and volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their day therapy sessions. Volunteers must be 18 or over. Dallowgill - Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by the Rev Ruth Parry at 2pm in Dallowgill chapel.
Galphay - Folk dance club: the Highside folk dance club members meet in the village institute will be from 8-10pm tomorrow when Twiddling Thumbs will play and Angela Bodey will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.
Grantley - Dominoes: the monthly dominoes night starts at 7.30pm tomorrow in the village hall.
Auction of promises: this event, in aid of Fountains parish and Fountains school, will be held in the village hall on Saturday. The doors will be open at 7pm and the auction begins at 7.30pm. Admission is £5 and this includes the first drink and canapés.
Meeting: Grantley and Winksley WI members meet for their AGM at 7.15pm next Wednesday, October 9. The business meeting will be followed by a pie and pea supper.
Dance: the next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm-midnight on Saturday, October 12. Lyne Valley will be the band and there will be a raffle and supper.
Dancing: mid-week dancing begins for the winter on Thursday, October 17. It is held in the village hall from 7.30-10pm.
Sawley - Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by Richard Clark at 2pm in Sawley chapel.
Church service: at 9am on Sunday the Rev Lesley Ashton will celebrate the Eucharist in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Village hall events: there will be an opportunity to play table tennis at 7pm on Monday. On Tuesday there will be dominoes at 2pm. a bowls match at 7pm and the village hall committee will meet at 7.45pm. This is the AGM. Everyone is welcome.
Whist and dominoes: the monthly whist and domino night will be held at 7.30pm on Friday, October 18.
Race night: the race night at the village hall begins at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 19. The charge is £5 payable on the door to include supper and a tote card. Come along and buy a horse or bet on a horse.
Winksley - Church service: the Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev Trevor Vaughan at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
