Church services: the plough service will be led by the Rev Caroline Falkingham at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. At this special service the Highside Longsword Dancers will perform the Kirkby Malzeard longsword dance. The mid week communion service will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Chapel service: on Sunday the Ebenezer chapel’s congregation is invited to join the plough service at 10.30am in St Andrew’s church.

Film night: the mechanics’ institute film nights begin again at 7.30pm tomorrow.

Dominoes: Kirkby Malzeard bowls club is holding a domino evening at 7.30pm on Monday in the Highside playing field pavilion. The entry fee is £2 to include tea and biscuits. All are welcome to what is hoped will become a regular event during the winter months.

Regular events: exercise classes will be held at the mechanics’ institute from 2-3pm and 7-8pm on Tuesdays and from 9.10-10.10am on Fridays. The watercolour painting class is from 9.30am-3.30pm, needlecraft from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and badminton from 7pm on Thursdays.

Coffee morning: The mechanics’ institute coffee morning will be held from 10am to noon on Saturday, January 26. Members and potential new members of the mechanics’ institute village hall are very welcome to come along and see what’s been happening in 2012 and what is planned for 2013. Social subscriptions, which can be paid on the day, are £10 per person and snooker/billiard subscriptions are £15 which includes social membership.

Quiz: the annual quiz begins at 7.30pm on Saturday, January 26 in the mechanics’ institute. The bar will be open at 7pm. Further details are on posters around the village.

Aldfield - Church service: there will be no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.

Azerley – Meeting: members of Azerley parish council meet at 7.30pm on Thursday, January 31 in Mickley church room.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.

Galphay - Folk dance club: the Highside Folk Dance club meets in the village institute from 8-10pm on the first, third and fifth Fridays of the month. The next meeting will be held tomorrow. The village hop band will play and Pauline Singleton will be the caller.

Grantley - Dancing: this will be held from 7.30-10pm next Thursday, January 24 in the village hall.

Dance: please note that the dance arranged for Saturday, February 2 has been cancelled.

Sawley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.

Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by the Rev David Richardson at 6.30pm in Sawley chapel.

Whist and dominoes: Sawley village hall’s monthly whist and domino night begins at 7.30pm tomorrow.

Village hall events: there will be table tennis at 7.30pm on Monday, a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday and short mat bowls at 1pm on Wednesday.

Tea: afternoon tea will be served from 2pm on Friday, January 25 in the village hall.

Winksley - Church service: the plough service, led by the Rev Maurice Jennett, begins at 10.30am on Sunday at the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
