Chapel service: there will be a service of the sacrament with Rev Ruth Parry at 10.30am on Sunday in the Ebenezer Chapel.

Church services: the family service with Liz Jarvis begins at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. The midweek communion service will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Quiz: it’s the mechanics’ institute quiz night tomorrow. The bar will be open from 8pm and the quiz begins at 8.30pm sharp.

Mechanics institute events: watercolour painting will be held from 9.45am-12.15pm, needlecraft from 1.30-3.30pm and badminton from 7.30pm today. he technical knockout class is from 9.15-10.15am and yoga starts at 1.45pm tomorrow. Please remember there will be no yoga on Friday, December 6 when the hall will be un use for setting up the craft fair. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class is from 2-3pm and body blitz aerobics from 7-8pm.

Dominoes: at 7.30pm on Monday there will be an opportunity to play dominoes at the Highside playing field pavilion. The charge is £2 to include tea and biscuits.

Party time: Kirkby Malzeard WI members are holding their Christmas party on Wednesday in the mechanics’ institute. It begins at 7.15pm and friends are invited at a charge of £5. The entertainment this year will be provided by Ripon Rowel Players.

Women’s fellowship: Terry Frazier is the speaker at the next meeting of members which will be held in the chapel schoolroom at 2.15pm on Wednesday. He will talk about a day in the life of a Cistercian monk.

Craft afternoon: the next craft afternoon will be held in the mechanics’ institute from 2-4pm next Thursday, December 5. You can bring along any knitting, needlework, rag rugging, card making or any other craft or just come along for tea/coffee and a chat. These sessions will be held every two weeks during the winter months.

Christmas craft fair: the annual patronal craft fair takes place from11am to 2pm on Saturday, December 7 in the mechanics’ institute. The children from Kirkby Malzeard primary school will sing and there will be a range of stalls including gifts, jams, cakes, cards, books, plants, silk flowers, dolls’ clothing and children’s wear. There will be gifts from Father Christmas and toasted sandwiches will be on sale. The proceeds will go to St Andrew’s church and a named charity in Ghana.

Saint Michael’s Hospice: the annual Light up a Life service will be held at Ripon cathedral at 3pm on Sunday, December 8. If you wish to dedicate a light on the Christmas tree to remember someone special please complete a form which is available from the Ripon Hospice shop or contact the hospice on 01423 879687. At 7.30pm on Friday, December 20 the Highside Singers will be presenting their Christmas concert at Grantley village hall. Tickets are available from choir and hospice committee members or by phoning 01765 658838. The ticket price of £7.50 includes tea/coffee and mince pies or shortbread.

Coffee morning: the last coffee morning g before Christmas will be held at the Methodist Chapel from 10am-noon on Tuesday, December 10 when there will be coffee and delicious home-made biscuits, and cakes and cards will be on sale.

Film night: the mechanics’ institute film night will be held on Friday, December 13. It begins at 7.30pm. Look in the mechanics’ institute for further details.

Concert: the Highside Singers will present their Christmas concert at St Andrew’s church on Friday, December 13. It starts at 7.30pm and tickets are on sale at Kirkby Stores.

Festive lunch: there is a change of venue for this year’s festive Christmas lunch but there will still be the usual delicious hot turkey sandwiches, a vegetarian option, mulled wine, soft drinks, mince pies and tea or coffee. It will be held from noon-2pm on Saturday, December 14 at the mechanics’ institute and is to raise funds to support the work of Christian Aid.

Aldfield - Church service: St Lawrence’s Church holds the Benefice Service of Light for Advent at 6.30pm on Sunday with Advent hymns and readings by candlelight. The Rev Caroline Falkingham will be the officiant.

Azerley - Parish council: Azerley parish council members meet in Winksley church room at 7.30pm tonight.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: as there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel the congregation is invited to join in worship at 10.30am at the Methodist Chapel in Kirkby Malzeard.

Meeting: members of the Discover Dallowgill History group meet in the chapel schoolroom at 3pm on Sunday, December 8.

Galphay - Folk dance club: Rhubarb sandwich will play and Hilary Johnson will be the caller when members of the Highside folk dance club meet in the village institute from 8-10pm tomorrow. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Quiz night: Galphay village institute committee is organising a quiz night to be held on Saturday. It starts at 7.30pm and there will be a hot supper. Please contact Elizabeth Metcalfe on 01765 650449 to book your ticket. Admission is £6. Come along and enjoy a fun evening for everyone.

Craft fair: from 10am-3pm on Saturday, December 7 the village institute will be the venue for a craft fair. Among a host of stalls there will be Galphay-made moisturiser, Christmas decorations, cards and homeware for sale. There will be an opportunity to have a mini beauty treatment and refreshments will be available all day. Contributions of raffle prizes will be welcome.

Film night: this will be held on Wednesday, December 11. It starts at 7pm. If you wish to suggest a film to be screened please contact Elizabeth Metcalfe. The most popular film will be shown.

Grantley - Young farmers: Winksley cum Grantley young farmers club members meet in the village hall on Wednesday.

Dancing: from 7.30-10pm next Thursday, December 5 the mid-week dancing session will be held in the village hall.

Dominoes: Christmas dominoes and draw will take place in the village hall at 7.30pm on Friday, December 6. Tickets are available from committee members and there are excellent prizes to be won.

Christmas fair: the Fountains parish Christmas fair will be held at Grantley village hall on Saturday, December 7. There will be all the usual attractions and refreshments and Father Christmas may pay a visit.

WI: members of Grantley and Winksley WI will celebrate with a Christmas dinner to be held on Wednesday, December 11.

Dance: the annual Boxing Day dance will be held at the village hall from 8pm-midnight when Alan’s band will play and there will be a raffle and supper.

Sawley - Chapel service: At 2pm on Sunday Rev Ruth Parry will celebrate the sacrament in Sawley chapel.

Church service: a said Eucharist will be celebrated by Rev Lesley Ashton at 9am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.

Tea: afternoon tea will be served in the village hall from 2pm tomorrow.

The road to Bethlehem: an evening of music to listen to, songs to join in, readings and mulled wine and mince pies takes place at 7pm tomorrow in the church of St Michael and All Angels. The cost is £5. More details are available by contacting Christine Dent, Julia Watson or the Rector.

Workshop: Sawley Arts Group is organising a Christmas decorations workshop in the village hall from 10am-4pm on Saturday. For more details about it please contact Jo on 01765 620658.

Village hall events: table tennis begins at 7.30pm on Monday and on Tuesday there will be a bowls match at 7.30pm.

North Country Theatre: North Country Theatre’s latest production, The Lost World, will be staged at the village hall on Friday, December 13, It’s the fascinating story of a pterodactyl loose in London and a balloon ride!. Winksley - Church service: the Eucharist will be celebrated by Rev Caroline Falkingham at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
