Chapel service: the Rev Ruth Parry will be the officiant at the Holy Communion service which begins at 10.30am on Sunday in the Ebenezer Chapel.
Church services: the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church will be celebrated by the Rev Caroline Falkingham. There will also be the children’s Sunday club, Spotlights. The midweek communion service starts at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Film night: the next film night at the mechanics’ institute will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow. Please look in the entrance to the mechanics’ institute for more details.
Workshop: Kate Crane will hold a workshop in the mechanics’ institute from 9.30am-noon on Saturday.
Swap shop: Kirkby Malzeard Yorkshire in Bloom committee is holding a plant, seed and cutting swap shop at the Jubilee Rose Garden (opposite the doctors’ surgery) from 10am-noon on Sunday. You are invited to bring along any unwanted plants, seeds and cuttings and swap them for others at no charge. If you bring 5five plants you will receive five tickets which can be swapped for other plants, seeds or cuttings. If you have nothing to swap tickets can be purchased at £1 each.
Mechanics institute events: the watercolour painting class will be held from 9.45am to-12.15pm this morning, the needlecraft class is from 1.30-3.30pm this afternoon and there will be badminton tonight. The technical knock out class will be held from 9.15-10.15am and yoga from 1.45-3pm tomorrow. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class will be at 2pm and body blitz aerobics at 7pm.
Quiz night: the mechanics’ institute quiz night will be held next Friday, October 25. The bar will be open from 8pm and the quiz begins promptly at 8.30pm.
Village supper: the Kirkby Malzeard in Bloom committee is holding a village supper in the mechanics’ institute on Saturday, October 26. Nibbles, village entertainment, a hot main course, home-made puddings and cheese and biscuits are all included in the ticket price of £10 per person. Profits from the evening will go to a gardening project at Kirkby Malzeard primary school. Tickets are available only at Kirkby Stores.
Meeting: members of Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill parish council meet in the annex of the mechanics’ institute at 7.15pm on Monday, October 28. Agenda items must be with the clerk by 9am on Monday, October 21.
Football training: Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light is running a three day football course in Kirkby Malzeard for children aged five to 16 -years old for three days from Wednesday, October 30. Hallowe’en party: a family hallowe’en party will be held at the mechanics’institute on Thursday, October 31.
Aldfield - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.
Dallowgill - Chapel service: the chapel congregation will make their own arrangements for Sunday worship.
Galphay - Folk dance club: from 8-10pm tomorrow the Taproom Band will play and Bob Carter will be the caller when members of the Highside folk dance club meet in the village institute. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.
Thanks: Joan Cawthorne of Gate Bridge Road wishes to thank all friends and neighbours who came to her Macmillan coffee morning. Also the customers in The Queens at Kirkby Malzeard for their generous donations and support. An amazing £323.55 was raised in memory of her daughter-in-law, Joanne.
Grantley - Dancing: mid-week dancing begins for the winter tonight. It is held in the village hall from 7.30-10pm.
Coffee evening: the Brownies are holding their annual coffee evening in the village hall on Tuesday. Please come along and support it.
Dance: the next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm to midnight on Saturday, November 2 when Mark Kitto will play. There will be a raffle and supper.
Sawley - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Sawley Chapel.
Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Whist and dominoes: the monthly whist and domino night will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow.
Race night:the race night at the village hall begins at 7.30pm on Saturday. The charge is £5 payable on the door to include supper and a tote card. Come along and buy a horse or bet on a horse.
Village hall events: there will be an opportunity to play table tennis at 7pm on Monday. Dominoes is at 1pm and a bowls match at 7.30pm on Tuesday.
Afternoon tea: from 2-4pm on Friday, October 25 afternoon tea will be served in the village hall.
Winksley - Church service: the Harvest Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev Lesley Ashton and Liz Jarvis at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald. It will be followed by lunch. Please add your name to the list at the back of the church or contact the churchwardens if you wish to attend the lunch. Gifts of produce, jams etc will be received in church on Saturday morning and the proceeds from the auction of these goods will be donated to the Seeds of Hope collection by Water Aid.
