Church services: the Eucharist will be celebrated by Rev Caroline Falkingham at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. There will also be Spotlights, the children’s Sunday club. The midweek communion service begins at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Chapel service: Mrs J Goodall will lead Sunday worship at 10.30am in the Ebenezer chapel.
Meeting: Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill parish council members meet at 7.15pm on Monday in the mechanics’ institute. The meeting is a week earlier than usual due to the bank holiday.
Show: entry forms for the 2013 Flower and Produce Show, which takes place on Saturday, September 7, must be left with Arnie Clement, 16 Mowbray Crescent, Kirkby Malzeard or with Colin Rumbold at 23, The Green, Kirkby Malzeard.by 9pm on Saturday, August 24. Entries are open to amateurs living within a three mile radius of the mechanics’ institute, Kirkby Malzeard and also within the whole parish of Dallowgill. Schedules are still available at Kirkby Stores, the Queen’s Head, the mechanics’ institute or from any committee member. The show will be held at the mechanics’ institute, Kirkby Malzeard.
Quiz: a quiz and supper in aid of St Andrew’s church will be held at St George’s Court, Grantley on Tuesday, August 17. It begins at 7.30pm and tickets are £7.50.
Aldfield - Church service: at 6.30pm on Sunday Nina Harrison will officiate at the service of Evensong (BCP) in St Lawrence’s Church.
Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.

Grantley - Garden fete: the village hall committee is holding its annual summer garden fete on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26. There will be all the usual stalls, games and attractions on the field and teas will be served in the village hall.
Dance: Alan’s band will play for the village hall dance on Saturday, September 7. It will be held from 8pm to midnight and there will be a raffle and supper. This dance is to raise funds for Christian Aid.
Sawley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Chapel service: Village Praise, led by Rev Ruth Parry, begins at 6.30pm on Sunday in Sawley chapel.
Whist and dominoes: the monthly whist and domino night begins at 7.30pm in the village hall.
Village hall events: there will be a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday in the village hall and short mat bowls will be held at 1pm on Wednesday.
Afternoon tea: from 2-4pm on Friday, August 30 afternoon tea will be served in the village hall. Everyone is most welcome.
Winksley - Church service: the service on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald is a celebration of the Eucharist with Rev Simon Hoare. It begins at 10.30am.
