Church services: the family service of Matins begins at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s Church. Liz Jarvis will lead it. The mid week communion service will be at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Chapel service: Mr S Vennart will lead Sunday worship at 10.30am in the Ebenezer chapel.
Yorkshire in Bloom: the summer judging takes place on Tuesday. The spring judging was cancelled so everything depends on the village looking its best on the day.
Coffee morning: coffee will be served from 10am- noon on Tuesday at the Methodist Chapel. Everyone is welcome and there will be cakes, produce and cards for sale.
Duck race: the Highside playing fields association annual duck race will be held earlier this year. It starts at Laverton bridge at 6pm on Friday, July 12 and tickets are already on sale at Kirkby Stores and Highside butchers. As usual there will be children’s games, tombola and refreshments on the field.
Walk: the Christian Aid Mosaic Walk takes place on Saturday, July 20. The start will be at 10.30am from Tom Corner, where there is parking, but for those who want please meet at Dallowgill Methodist Chapel where there are toilets. The walk is seven miles long and follows a trail of 22 mosaics passing through a varied landscape of moorland, valleys, hamlets, pasture and woodland. Stout footwear is advisable. Bring your own lunch for a stop half way round. Refreshments will be provided at Dallowgill at the end. Concert: North Yorkshire based band LedZep/DC make an eagerly anticipated return to Masham Town Hall on Saturday, July 13. The doors will be open at 7.30pm and there will be a bar. Tickets are £8 in advance and are available in advance at Masham community office, Ripon News (North Street, Ripon) and Cowie’s Newsagents (West Street, Ripon). Afternoon tea: the Friends of Ripon hospital are holding an afternoon tea with scones, jam and cream from 2-4pm on Friday, July 19 in the mechanics’ institute. There will be a raffle and cake, book and £1 stalls. Please support your local hospital.
Going Grey: after its successful run in York last year and before going down to London, the musical comedy Going Grey about Helen, a recently widowed 40-year old will be presented at the mechanics’ institute on Friday, July 19. Coffee morning: from 10am-noon on Saturday, July 20 the local Christian Aid committee is holding a coffee morning at the rectory on Ringbeck Road. There will be a raffle, tombola and a cake and produce stall.
Cream tea: the cream tea held at the Methodist Church raised £211.45 for church funds. The organisers are grateful to everyone who supported it.
Tea@3: this event, organised by Kirkby Malzeard WI, was well supported and raised £439.05 for Saint Michael’s Hospice. WI members are grateful to everyone who donated items for sale and who attended.
Panto 2014: this is advance notice that the Kirkby Malzeard Players are performing the pantomime Jack and the beanstalk in March 2014. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, September 11 in the annex of the mechanics’ institute from 6pm onwards. All those who are aged eight years and over are welcome to attend.
Aldfield - Church service: There is no service Eucharist on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.
Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.
Church service: the service of Evensong (BCP) begins at 6.30pm on Sunday at the Chapel of the Resurrection. Liz Jarvis will be the officiant.
Galphay - Folk dance club: members of the Highside Folk Dance club meet in the village institute from 8-10pm tomorrow. Twiddling Thumbs will play and Angela Bodey will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.
Grantley - Dominoes: the next domino night at the village hall begins at 7.30pm tomorrow.
Sports day: Grantley Sports day takes place on Saturday on the field.
WI: instead of the usual meeting the members of Grantley and Winksley WI will be visiting Nunnington Hall on Wednesday, stopping in Helmsley for lunch and taking afternoon tea on the way home.
Dance: Roe Valley will play for the dance on Saturday, July 13 at the village hall. It will be held from 8pm to midnight and there will be a raffle and supper.
Young farmers: Winksley cum Grantley young farmers meet in the village hall on Wednesday, July 17.
Sawley - Church service: Rev Alan Denyer will celebrate the Eucharist at 9am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by Rev Susan Richardson at 2pm in Sawley Chapel.
Village hall events: there will be a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday and short mat bowls begins at 1pm on Wednesday.
Meeting: members of the village hall committee meet in the village hall at 7.45pm on Tuesday.
Sports day: Sawley’s children’s sports day will be held on Saturday, July 13. It begins at 2pm.
Winksley - Church service: Rev Simon Hoare will celebrate the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
