Church services: at 10.30am on Sunday there will be the monthly children’s service at St Andrew’s church. It will be led by Rev Caroline Falkingham. It will also be the pet service. The mid week Communion service begins at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Chapel service: it’s the Ebenezer Chapel’s Anniversary service on Sunday beginning at 10.30am. Rev Susan Richardson will lead it and all are welcome.
Elections: elections to North Yorkshire county council will take place in the reading room of the mechanics’ institute from 7am-10pm today.
May Day: the flower and produce show committee will hold its annual stall at the market cross on May Day. There will be plants for sale and a cake and produce stall. Contributions for the stalls will be most welcome. Selling begins at 9.30am. A raffle to raise funds for Yorkshire in Bloom will start off at the market cross and continue at the mechanics’ institute where a coffee morning will be held from 10am-noon.
Members’ evening: the mechanics’ institute committee is organising a members’ event to be held at 7.30pm on Friday, May 10.This is a cheese and wine evening to which all 2013 members are invited.
Cake stall: from 9am on Saturday, May 11 there will be a cake stall at the Methodist Chapel for Helping Ellie. Ellie is a two-year old who has been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy which presents problems with mobility. Any monies raised will go towards adaptations to her home to make life easier for Ellie and her family.
Coffee morning: the chapel coffee morning will be held from 10am-noon on Tuesday, May 14. Cakes, produce and cards will also be on sale. Please leave cakes with Janet Jordan at Montreux, bring them to the stall or telephone 01765 658838 to arrange for them to be collected.
May Fair: this will be held at Kirkby Malzeard Primary school from 11am-2pm on Saturday, May 18. There will be maypole dancing, a pet show, hog roast, stalls, games, classic cars, the May Queen and the Green Man. Refreshments will be available. A collection of old school photographs will be exhibited in the old school on the day. The proceeds from the event will be divided between St Andrew’s church and the primary school.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance: there will be a cake stall at the May Fair to raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Donations of cakes will be welcome and should be brought to the school on the morning of the fair, given to Josie Pearson at Rose Lea Tearooms or telephone 01765 658838 to arrange for collection.
Aldfield - Church service: the service on Sunday at St Lawrence’s Church will be Evensong. It begins at 6.30pm.
Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill Chapel but there will be the lambing service at the Chapel of the Resurrection. It will be led by Rev Caroline Falkingham and begins at 6.30pm.
Spring walk: the weather was perfect for the 2013 Dallowgill spring walk. Thanks to the support of the group leaders, the walkers and everyone who provided refreshments en route and at the end of the walk a total of £386 was raised. This will be divided between Dallowgill Chapel and the Chapel of the Resurrection.
Concert: Thornton Watlass choir will be presenting a musical evening at Dallowgill Chapel on Friday, May 10. It starts at 7.30pm and will be followed by supper. It is a chapel fund-raising event.
Galphay - Folk dance club: the Highside Folk Dance club members meet in the village institute from 8-10pm tomorrow. The band will be The Roosters and Dave will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.
Grantley - Bags2school: there will be another collection of old clothes, bags, curtains tomorrow. Please bring any goods you have to be included to Fountains Playgroup before 9am in time for collection. The November collection raised £240 for the playgroup.
Dominoes: tomorrow night is the village hall’s monthly domino night. It begins at 7.30pm.
Ceilidh: this fund-raising event for the Fountains Parish will be held at the village hall on Saturday. The doors will be open at 7pm for a prompt 7.30pm start. Entry is £8.50 for adults and £5 for children and this includes a pie and pea supper. Tickets are available by contacting Yvonne Fleetham on 01765 658419. There will be a bar.
WI meeting: when members of Grantley and Winksley WI meet in the village hall at 7.15pm on Wednesday the resolution decision will be the first item on the agenda followed by a craft evening at which they will make a fabric notice board. Materials will be provided unless members wish to bring their own choice of fabric. There will be a small charge involved.
Wine tasting: there will be a wine tasting evening in the village hall on Saturday, May 11.
Dance: Mark Kitto will provide the music for the next dance at the village hall. It will be held from 8pm to midnight on Saturday, May 25. There will be a raffle, and refreshments will be served.
Sawley - Church service: there will be a celebration of the Eucharist at 9am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Chapel service: Rev Susan Richardson will lead Sawley chapel’s anniversary service at 5pm on Sunday. Please note the later time.
Elections: the village hall will be used for the county council elections from 7am-10pm today.
Village hall events: there will be table tennis from 7pm on Monday, dominoes at 1.30pm on Tuesday, short mat bowls will take place at 1pm on Wednesday and yoga at 10am on Thursday.
Meeting: members of Sawley WI meet in the village hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday.
Sponsored walk: meet on The Green at 2pm on Sunday, May 13 for a three to four mile walk. Please wear suitable footwear. Cake and refreshments will be available in the village hall at the end. Money from the sponsored walk will be for the sports day which will take place on The Green on Saturday, July 13.
