Church services: the monthly children’s service begins at 10.30am in St Andrew’s church on Sunday and will be led by Adrian Roberts. The midweek celebration of the Eucharist will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Chapel service: Dianne Johnson will lead Sunday worship at 10.30am the Ebenezer chapel.

Patronal fair: Saint Andrew’s patronal fair will be held at the mechanics’ institute from 11am-3pm on Saturday, December 1 with a host of stalls, tombola, raffle and refreshments. Father Christmas will be there and the children from Kirkby Malzeard school and pre-school will sing. The proceeds go to a named charity and Saint Andrew’s church.

Women’s fellowship: the guest speaker when the ladies meet in the Methodist Chapel schoolroom at 2.15pm on Wednesday, December 5 will be Terry Frazier whose talk will be about Colditz Castle. This will be followed by tea and biscuits.

WI meeting: members and their friends will meet in the mechanics’ institute at 7.15pm on Wednesday, December 5 for their Christmas party.

Choir events: the Highside Singers, the Kirkby Malzeard-based choir, begins a programme of Christmas events by singing at the Dickensian Festival in Pateley Bridge on Saturday, December 8. At 7.30pm on Friday, December 14 they will present their seasonal concert at the mechanics’ institute in Kirkby Malzeard. There will be a raffle and refreshments. Tickets for this are £6 and are available from Andrea Widdison on 01765 650145 or from choir members. This concert is in aid of Yorkshire cancer research. The following evening, Saturday, December 15 they will present their concert at Darley Methodist chapel. Recently the choir has been given a grant by Nidderdale Plus. The money will be used to purchase new music.

Coffee morning: the final coffee morning of 2012 will be held from 10am-noon on Tuesday, December 11 in the chapel schoolroom where, in addition to coffee and a chat, there will be a warm welcome and home made cakes and produce on sale.

Festive lunch: the annual fund raiser for Christian Aid will be held from noon-2pm on Saturday, December 15. Come along to 10 St Andrew’s Meadows for a hot turkey sandwich, mulled wine, mince pies and coffee. Lunch is £6 and there will be a tombola for which prizes will be gratefully received

Aldfield - Church service: at 6.30pm on Sunday there will be a special candlelit Advent service in St Lawrence’s Church. The officiant will be the Rev Caroline Falkingham.

Azerley - Meeting: the members of Azerley parish council meet at 7.30pm tonight in the church room in Winksley.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill Chapel.

Meeting: there will be a meeting in the schoolroom after the chapel service on Sunday, December 9 for people interested in the Discover Dallowgill Project. Please bring any additional information you may have. If you wish to know more about the project please contact Patrice Lyth on 01765 658702. There will be a £2 charge to cover refreshments and the hire of the chapel.

Concert: Mexborough school will present the annual concert in St Peter’s church on Saturday, December 15. It begins at 7pm and will be followed by refreshments.

Galphay - Folk dance club: Chas and Heather, the village hop band, will play, folk dance club members meet in the village institute from 7.30-10pm tomorrow. The caller will be Tony Whitehead. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children,

Grantley - Dancing: there is dancing from 7.30-10pm tonight in the village hall.

Meeting: the Winksley cum Grantley young farmers meet in the village hall on Thursday.

Committee meeting: the village hall committee meet on Thursday.

Domino drive: the Christmas domino drive at the village hall begins at 7.30pm on Friday, December 7. Tickets for the grand Christmas draw which will be drawn at the domino drive are available from village hall committee members. There are excellent prizes to be won.

Fair: the Fountains parish Christmas fair begins at 2.30pm on Saturday, December 8 in the village hall.

WI: Grantley and Winksley WI members meet for their Christmas meal on Wednesday, December 12.

Sawley - Church service: the Rev Caroline Falkingham will officiate at the said communion service which will be held at 9am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels is the Eucharist. The family service at 10.30am next Sunday will take place in Fountains school. Children are invited to make angels at the service.

Chapel service: the Rev Ruth Parry will lead Sunday worship at 2pm in Sawley chapel.

Tea: afternoon tea will be served from 2pm tomorrow in the village hall.

Village hall events: there will be badminton on Monday at 7.30pm,dominoes on Tuesday at 1.30pm and short mat bowls at 1pm on Wednesday.

Meeting: Sawley WI members meet in the village hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday.

North Country Theatre: call 01765 620250 for details and tickets (£8.50) for North Country Theatre’s production of The lighthouse on shivering sands, a sinister story of sea and strangulation. It will be held in the village hall at 7.30pm on Thursday, December 6.

Winksley - Church service: there will be a celebration of the Eucharist and a Baptism at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald. The Rev Caroline Falkingham will officiate.

Christmas fair: this takes place at Grantley village hall on Saturday, December 9. It starts at 2.30pm.
