Recent graduates have secured places at some of the UK’s top universities to study subjects such as Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Physics, Biochemistry, Architecture, Economics and Law.

Sylvia Brett, Principal of Harrogate Ladies’ College, said, “I am so delighted that the girls have achieved such excellent results. I know how hard they’ve worked, and I’ve seen their grit and determination to succeed. They should be immensely proud of their success.

“Today’s results mean that the girls now have amazing opportunities open to them as they move onto the next phase in their lives. We always encourage our pupils to be individuals and to choose the path that is right for them. The range and diversity of the subjects the girls are going on to study is a reflection of this and I hope that as a school we have given the girls the confidence to continue to be themselves for the rest of their lives.”

Among those celebrating today were cousins Alice and Amy Brown who achieved five A* grades and one A grade between them. Alice, who two years ago achieved straight A*s at GCSE, was awarded two A*s and one A and has now secured a place to study Medicine at Bristol University. Meanwhile, Amy achieved a full set of three A*s and will study Veterinary Medicine after a well-deserved gap year.

Alice said, “I’m so happy. It was a lot of hard work but I’ve got my place to study Medicine at Bristol University, so it was definitely worth it. The teachers at Harrogate Ladies’ College have helped and supported me all the way - they helped me believe I could do it!”

Also celebrating are Nikki Mao who achieved three A* grades (including a score of 100% in Physics) and is now going on to study Physics at Imperial College London; Francesca Leyshon who achieved two A*s and one A grade to secure a place to study English Literature at Leeds University and Arajeane Aravindan who will study Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh University after achieving two A*s and an A.
