Church Celebration: Grewelthorpe St James’ and the Methodist Church invite everyone to celebrate the completion of the church renovations. This will be on Saturday, June 22 at 6pm. The evening will commence with a short service of thanksgiving, attended by Bishop James Bell and Rev Stephen Burgess, chair of the Methodist District. After the service, light refreshments will be served. It is hoped that everyone will want to inspect the new church interior and see what has been achieved.

Womens Institute Quiz: a draw was made at the recent WI meeting from all the correct entries of the 2013 Quiz. The winner is Mrs E Falshaw of Masham. Thank you to everyone who supported Grewelthorpe WI by taking part. The answers are available on the Grewelthorpe web site under WI.

Grewelthorpe WI Report: the June meeting was guest night with members from several institutes in the group attending. The speaker for the evening was Ryan Stocks from Owl Adventures. He had brought along eight owls and a falcon. The audience were delighted to see these delightful birds close up, get a chance to handle them and see them flying around the room. A lovely supper was served afterwards and everyone agreed it had been a very pleasant evening. Grewelthorpe members are reminded of the outing to the Lavender farm on Wednesday, June 26. The coach leaves the Crown at 9.30am.

Grewelthorpe Gala: takes place on Saturda,y July 6 between 2-4pm. The event is organised by Grewelthorpe Sports & Social Association and will be held on the village green.

The competitions are as follows.

Fancy Dress (please meet at Lofty’s wall at approximately 2pm) Theme. An Animal; Decorated Wheelbarrow Theme- Wildlife. Any age group 1st, 2nd & 3rd; The John Thorpe Trophy will be to design an animal mask. Winner will receive the trophy to be kept for one year. Please bring to marquee on Saturday, for 10.45am. Judging at 11am; The Geoff Grimsditch Trophy will be for a wildlife photo. Winner will receive the trophy to be kept for one year. (Please bring photos with name on reverse to Linda Oldridge’s, Lake House on the Green, before Friday, July 5). The winner will be chosen by the public and announced on the day; Pet Show, please bring your pet to the Green at approx. 2.15pm ; Other events include children’s races, slow bike race. The Purple Play Bus, egg throwing. guessing games, tattoos for children, nail art, milk the cow, Pimms tent and tombola. Delicious homemade teas will be served in the marquee by Grewelthorpe Church committee. Five aside football competition to be held on the playing field at 4pm. Evening barbecue on the village green. Please bring own food, chairs etc.

The organisers would be very grateful for the donation of tombola prizes, please hand to Liz Dixon. Cakes, scones and biscuits to be taken on the day to the marquee or to Liz Witton before the event.
