Flood volunteers thanked by Tad MP

Tadcaster’s MP Nigel Adams welcomed members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) to Parliament last week and thanked them for the group’s help in the aftermath of the flooding that hit the town on Boxing Day.

About 12 volunteers from AMYA came to the aid of Tadcaster flood victims between Christmas and New Year and worked tirelessly alongside hundreds of others.

AMYA, whose motto is Love for all, Hatred for none, works across the country assisting those in need.

Nigel Adams said: “AMYA have shown that these young Muslims are proud of Britain.

“They went out of their way to make sure they do their bit to contribute and I know the people of Tadcaster are extremely grateful to them for their efforts in helping get the town back on it’s feet.”

To date AMYA has planted more than 140,000 trees across the nation and distributed more than 50,000 food packs to the homeless in their weekly London homeless feeding sessions and to flood victims in the North.

And more than 7,000 pints of blood have been donated by AMYA members as over 8,000 young Muslim men were engaged in social and charity work over the past year.

The reception evening in Parliament was a chance to highlight the great humanitarian and charity work AMYA are involved in.

And the occasion included a cheque presentation ceremony to the many charities that AMYA has worked with over the past year, raising just short of £400,000 for British charities.

This figure brings the total funds raised by AMYA for UK charities to over £2 million.

The list of charities include Royal British Legion, Barnardo’s, CLIC Sargent, British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, Save the Children, Marie Curie and Great Ormond Street Hospital among others.

National AMYA President, Mirza Waqas Ahmad said: “Islam teaches us that we should be loyal to the country we reside in.

“It is only through integrating the youth into their local communities and encouraging them to do good works that radicalisation can be eliminated.”
