Time is running out to nominate any of the district’s 25,000 volunteers for a Volunteering Oscar.
The closing date for nominations has been extended until noon on Thursday, October 25, and organisers are urging people to get in touch to get their volunteer or group recognised, before it is too late.
The awards recognise people who give up their time to volunteer across the Harrogate Borough Council (HBC) area, and people need to pick up the phone or go online to help get their local volunteer the recognition they deserve.
This year’s glittering awards event, on November 16 at the Old Swan Hotel will be the fifth year of the Oscars, the brainchild of former Mayor and current Harrogate councillor John Fox.
Coun Fox said: “The awards recognise the time given by all volunteers who have gone the extra mile.
“On the back of the Olympics, where everybody praised the volunteers who went along and guided the public, more than ever it is clear volunteering is a hugely important part of the community.
He added: “The people who are nominated and recognised by their colleagues are those who have been doing a really good job and this is their way of saying thank you.”
The awards are jointly organised and sponsored by the Harrogate Advertiser, Ripon Gazette, Knaresborough Post and Nidderdale Herald. and by the Harrogate and Ripon Volunteer Centre.
There are awards for Young, Care, Community, Environment, Sports, New, Lifetime and Overall Volunteers of the Year. To nominate, click here here or write to 1 Cardale Park, HG3 1RZ or email email@example.com.
