A RIPON woman and her pet, Archie – a three-and-a-half-year-old English bull terrier – have proved every dog has its day by walking away with a top prize at Crufts.
Archie was one of 26,000 dogs at the Kennel Club’s competition in Birmingham, held March 8-11, and claimed the prestigious Best of Breed award.
Archie, owned by Rebecca Mathison, fought off competition from 77 other dogs to scoop the coveted prize.
Rebecca said: “This is Archie’s first best of breed. This is his last show as well so we’re so pleased with him, he’s really signed off in true style.
“We’re so proud of Archie, he behaved so well and it was pretty nerve-wracking in the main arena but it went OK.
“Crufts is the big event of the year, it’s the one everybody wants to win but it’s always a long day and Archie just wanted to go home by the end, but he’s happy and so are we.”
Last year Archie’s kennel mate Lucy won Best Bitch and Best of Breed in the English bull terrier class, while Archie took Best Dog.
