In 2014, the college secured part of the multi-million pound funding from the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership to ‘strengthen local economies’.

As a result, students returning in September will be met with new facilities including a new technology centre housing motor vehicle workshops.

A large two-floor extension will also be built at the rear of the main building; housing the beauty salon, state of the art science labs and training kitchens as well as the ‘high street’ at the front of the main building.

Debra Forsythe-Conroy, principal of Harrogate College, said that the redevelopment will help the college match the ‘stature and reputation for quality’ in the town.

She said: “The investment supports our commitment to securing increased employment opportunities in the area and enhancing our ability to develop career packages.

“The redevelopment will help to provide students with a vibrant learning environment, with new equipment in the improved facilities allowing students to perform to their full potential.”

The second phase of the investment programme will include a 3G multi-use pitch for student and community use as well as an expanded IT curriculum.

Ms Forsythe-Conroy said she expected more applications from students wanting to be part of the ‘exciting time’ at the college.

She said: “We’re all thrilled with how the project is taking shape and can’t wait to see the finished campus.”
