Held at Harrogate’s Ashville College, the Brownlee Foundation – founded by Olympic medallists Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee - saw the youngsters swim 30m in the school’s pool, followed by a 1km cycle and a 400m run.

The Ashville Triathlon, sponsored by estate agents Linley & Simpson, was one in a series of events taking place ahead of the recent ITU (International Triathlon Union) World Series Event held in Leeds.

Duncan Archer, Ashville Head of Sport Development, said: “The Ashville Triathlon was a huge success and I’m incredibly grateful to all those who helped bring to stage it, in particular Linley & Simpson for sponsoring the event.

“In total more than 1,000 boys and girls from 30 schools from Harrogate, Craven, Leeds and Bradford, were able to experience for themselves the sport synonymous with the Brownlee brothers.”

“We could not have asked for a better day weather wise, and all those who took part received a medal and goody bag.

“Even though this was a non competitive event, all the students treated it as if it was the Olympic finals.

“I’d also like to think that a good number of those who participated in the Ashville Triathlon will now train in the sport when they reach senior school.”
