Pupils step out for Open Arms Malawi charity

The walk has been an annual event in the school’s calendar for almost four decades and has supported a host of local charities and Open Arms Malawi.

Open Arms, launched by former Ashville College teacher Neville Beavis and his wife Rosemary, provides care and safe homes for orphans and abandoned children across the southern African state.

And its work is especially important as Malawi has been hit hard by HIV/AIDS and is home to over a million children orphaned by the disease.

In summer 2017, Sixth Form students from the college will travel out to see what the school’s support has already achieved and work further with Open Arms.

Tom Hanna, the Ashville College teacher who organised this year’s walk, said: “Once again, the Ashville community has come together to participate in this annual sponsored walk, whilst at the same time raising money for this wonderful charity that does so much for orphans.”

He added: “For the first time our youngest pupils from Ashville Pre-Prep School participated in the event by completing a shortened course, many of whom were joined by their parents.

“As ever it was a great day out and I would like to thank all those who helped make it the success it always is.”
