Youngsters at a Topcliffe school had a surprise when their school grounds were turned into a Wonderland.

Pupils at Queen Mary’s School enjoyed a tea party hosted by the Mad Hatter complete with a Wonderland cake.

The four and five-year-olds from the Nursery and Reception classes have been studying Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s book Alice in Wonderland.

Mum Nathalie Druyts decided to organise the surprise with a little help from actor friend Anthony Schito.

Mr Schito brought the Mad Hatter to life and was even able to offer his guests a special Wonderland cake baked by mum Mrs van Es.

Pupils dressed as characters from the book including Alice, the March Hare and the Dormouse.
