Graham Turner, headteacher of Bedale High School, has announced he is to leave the school.
Graham, who has been at Bedale for nine years, is to be headteacher of Zhenhai High School in Ningbo. eastern China.
He said: “It has been a pleasure to lead Bedale High School over the last nine years and I am proud of the achievements and the developments that have occurred during those intervening years.
“The school is a special place, it has a unique and inclusive character, it is a genuine community school and I am sure that the school will continue to thrive and prosper in the future. I will miss the students, their friendliness and good humour and the day to day hustle and bustle of school life. I have sought to improve the facilities and the quality of learning and teaching throughout with a budget the size of a postage stamp whilst always seeking to retain a positive staff spirit. I hope that the welcome I receive in China is as good as the one I received in Bedale and I am sure that the new headteacher will take the school from strength to strength and I am happy to have been part of the journey.”
