Before blistering her way to a team silver medal, North Yorkshire Olympic three day event rider Nicola Wilson popped round to Ainderby Steeple Church of England school to say a big thank you.

The Olympian visited her local primary school, to thank them for the card they sent to wish her and her horse Opposition Buzz good luck in the Games.

Headteacher Fiona Sharp at the time of Nicola’s visit, said it had been the icing on the cake for pupils who were excited about the run up to the Olympics.

The school is also celebrating its Ofsted inspection after being rated as a good school overall and good across all inspection areas. The school was also judged as a distinct and effective church school under the National Society Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools, which followed the Ofsted inspection.

In addition the end of term saw pupils complete their annual charity fund-raising in which they raised £1,830 for their chosen charity, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Chair man of Governors, Adrian Dixon, said he was delighted with these tremendous achievements for a small rural school, and stressed the importance of links with the local community, particularly sporting role-models like Nicola.

He said the whole school wished Nicola well for the Olympics and the future.
