A NEW head boy and girl have been appointed at Ripon College.

Tom Gudgeon and Pia Boddy will lead the student body as the school becomes Outwood Academy Ripon.

Pia, who studies ICT, business and English A-levels, hopes to go to university and train as a primary school teacher when she leaves school.

She follows in the footsteps of her father, who was a student at Ripon College, and her grandfather who was head of history at the school before his retirement.

Tom is studying for A-levels in business, media and science, and after school will enrol in a four year apprenticeship in stonemasonry at York College before coming back to Ripon to join his family’s stonemasonry business.

Pia and Tom told fellow students in the Junior Press Group that they are very proud of their school and want to get students more involved in fundraising and helping out at community events.

They also want to re-launch the school shop – College Corner – and produce a regular newsletter of school events.
