People are being urged to sprint towards their New Year fitness goals by signing up to the fourth annual Lightwater Valley Challenge multi-terrain 10k race.
his year’s race, taking place on Sunday, March 16 and sponsored by Fiat Piccadilly, will see Ripon Grammar School for the first time joining forces with North Stainley CE Primary School to organise the popular event which will see the biggest turn out of runners since the Lightwater Valley Challenge started in 2011.
Race organiser Andrea Mansfield said: “The race provides the perfect target for your new year fitness goals, even if you’ve never taken part in an organised run before or if this is the year you want to beat your personal best.”
The event has gone from strength to strength, raising more than £2,000 last year. As well as raising much needed funds for the two local schools, the national charity British Limbless Ex-Service Men Association (BLESMA) – which provides specialist rehabilitation and care to all limbless serving and ex-serving men and women – will also benefit.
Andrea added: “An added sense of achievement comes from knowing that every penny raised from this event is split between North Stainley School, Ripon Grammar School and BLESMA .”
The 10k race goes through the grounds of Lightwater Valley Theme Park and into the surrounding countryside following gravel tracks with one mile of road running. For those people who find the thought of a 10k race daunting there is a 3k fun run for anyone aged over nine-years -old. For the younger runners under-nine there is a fun field run.
Local charity Jennyruth Workshops are busy designing and making the unique handmade medals for all finishers. There will also be handmade trophies to the first senior male and female under-40 and first veteran male and female over 40. Refreshments will be served on the day by the Friends of North Stainley School charity.
