Pupils at Boroughbridge High School have been learning about first aid as part of the Lions’ International Young Leader campaign.

Boroughbridge Lions Club has been working closely with BTEC pupils at the school on the campaign, which encourages community work by youth in the town.

After pupils decided they would like to know more about what to do if someone was suffering heart problems, a first aid course for the 20 BTEC class pupils taking part in the Leader campaign was organised with the British Red Cross, with the Lions paying for the training.

The success of this first session quickly led to a grander scheme when Bob Daly, from the British Red Cross, visited the school to offer an hour’s basic training to all 130 of the school’s Year 7 pupils, aged 12 and 13-years-old.

Plans are being considered to make first aid training by the British Red Cross an annual part of the Year 7 curriculum.
