A drink-driving teenager whose car ended up in a ditch at Blubberhouses on Sunday morning has been left with serious injuries.

The 19-year-old, from Hebden Bridge, was travelling towards Harrogate from Skipton on the A59 when he crashed his Vauxhall Corsa into the dry stone walling at 4.55am.

His car was found by passers by near the Pateley Bridge turn off in a ditch with the police and ambulance service later arriving on the scene to rescue the driver.

The teenager was then arrested after failing a breath test at the scene before being taken to Leeds General Infirmary with a fractured pelvis and kidney injuries.

Police said the teenager was 'lucky to be alive' following the crash and confirmed they would be conducting an investigation and interviewing the driver in due course.
