The Dean of Ripon will be cast away in a local version of the long running radio programme Desert Island Discs.
The show will take place on Sunday, May 6 at St John’s Chapel, Bondgate, at 3pm, and Very Rev Keith has agreed to be temporarily marooned in the Chapel to support its plans for redevelopment.
The Dean will talk candidly about his life and ministry, which began in the Midlands before he moved north to Yorkshire.
Rev John Rutter, minister at St John’s, will be the presenter.
He said: “It seemed a good way to celebrate 70 years of a great British radio programme, as well as having some fun. I may not be a Roy Plomley or a Michael Parkinson and even less a Kirsty Young, but it will be an interesting and entertaining afternoon, exploring Dean Keith’s experiences of industrial town, city centre, council estates, abbey and cathedral, all accompanied by his music choices.”
Refreshments will conclude the event. The cost is £6, or £5 for concessions, and places can be reserved by ringing 605638.
St John’s is undertaking a redecoration of the chapel with redevelopment to enable greater community use of the building.
