Vandals destroyed hundreds of trees on land near West Arrathorne, Hunton, in Bedale.

Vandals targeted 400 tree saplings in an act of criminal damage near the town on Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14.

Bedale police are now appealing to members of the public to help track down the people responsible for cutting down the trees.

The trees, which had been planted as a windbreak, were not visible by the public and were situated away from footpaths and bridleways.

PC Mark Wood, of Bedale safer neighbourhood team, said: “I am asking people in the local area to come forward if they have any information about the damage and ask that they contact the police or Crimestoppers.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity at the time or in the days leading up to the damage and ask that they get in touch.”
