Police seek man over ‘inappropriate’ comments

POLICE are appealing for help to trace a man wanted in connection with an incident in the centre of Harrogate.

A 17-year-old girl was approached by a man who tried to engage her in conversation and made suggestive comments.

When she ignored him, the man grabbed her mobile phone and made an inappropriate request. She managed to grab her phone back and ran away.

The incident took place on Wednesday, November 30 around 9.30pm. The suspect is described as Asian, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 9ins tall with slim build and broad shoulders, speaking with an Indian accent.

Det Sgt Ed Noble of Harrogate CID said: “Harrogate is a family friendly town and it is wholly unacceptable that anyone should be approached and accosted in such a manner.

“I need to trace the man so that I can speak to him and prevent this type of behaviour happening again the future.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have been approached in similar circumstances and has not yet reported the incident to the police.”

Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option two and ask for DC Chris Addison at Harrogate Police Station. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting reference 12110202411.
