Police appeal after Northallerton smash

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for a vital witness to come forward following a serious road traffic collision near Northallerton.

At 12.30pm on Sunday, July 1 a car and a motorcycle were in a collision on the B6271 between Northallerton and Yafforth near Northdale Horticulture. It involved a red Peugeot 406, heading out of Northallerton, and a motorcycle, which was one of a group of three bikes heading towards the town.

As a result of the collision the 19-year-old man from Sandhutton, near Thirsk, riding the motorcycle was taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries, where he currently remains in a stable but critical condition.

The 52-year-old man from Darlington driving the Peugeot who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail to allow to allow for further enquiries.

Police are keen to trace the driver of a dark coloured car which stopped at the time of the collision but left before officers arrived.

Traffic Constable Neil Cholmondeley, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am appealing to the driver of the car which stopped at the scene to come forward and contact the police as a matter of urgency.
